ORANGE Review 2

orange
Orange

Punchline: konthakalam premikudu

Story
orange Ram (Ram Charan Tej) is an youngster staying in Australia. He is an honest guy who doesn’t want to complicate life by lying to others. He has clear-cut ideas about love and he thinks that the intensity of love will not remain the same as the relationship progresses. He falls in love at first sight with Jaanu (Genelia) and impresses her over a period of time. However, he clarifies that he can’t love her forever when she proposes to him. The rest of the story is about all the hurdles he comes across due to his honesty and truth-telling nature and how he overcomes them.

Artists Performance
orange Ram Charan Tej: Ram Charan Tej should be appreciated for accepting such a honest subject with a thin story line for his third movie. It shows that Charan is not trying to stick to stardom and is not willing to repeat the mistakes performed by stars. The entire films runs on his characterization. He is brilliant in the break-up scenes and I loved his don’t-give-a-damn body language. His dances are full of energy and life.
orange
Others: Genelia’s characterization is just an extension to her Bommarillu character. However, the initial scenes involving her are not good. Hero character falls in love with heroine character in the movie because of freshness and innocence (which was there in Bommarillu character). However she didn’t carry such a freshness in this movie. Shahzahn Padamsee looks gorgeous with an endearing smile. Brahmanandam is entertaining in a full-length role of Puppy. Praneeth (Avakai Biryani fame) is very good and engaging as a friend of hero. His mixed the style of Siddharth and Sekhar Kammula in his dialogue delivery. Srinivas Avasarala (Ashta Chemma fame) is cool. Vennela Kishore doesn’t have much role to play. Prabhu is adequate in a role of negative shades. Naga Babu played a nice role and his character gives food for thought to hero. Gayatri Rao, Sanchitha Shetty and Kalpika are adequate.

Technical departments
orangeStory - screenplay - direction: Bhaskar comes up with an unique and nice story that was never dealt on Telugu screen before. The basic point of love staling out over period of a time is an universal truth. Bhaskar explained the same with the ‘black and white’ characterization of Charan. Though he couldn’t get it right with his screenplay and back/forth narration in the first half, he explained the concept of the movie really well towards the climax with a gripping flashback and climax. Bhaskar who has done a beautiful film like Bommarillu with completely positive characters has infused negative shades in the heroine’s father characters in his subsequent films like Parugu and Orange. Having Prabhu’s character as negative one spoilt the mood/texture of the movie.
orange
Other departments: Songs scored by Harris Jayaraj peppy and energetic. Rooba Rooba song is my favorite. However the background scored for the movie didn’t help in elevating the situations. Dialogues (done by three writers) are partly okay. The philosophical dialogues explaining the concept of love are interesting in the second half. Cinematography and visuals are very good. Cinematography for the entire Mumbai episode is excellent. Marthand K Venkatesh opted for montage style editing (which is usually done for situational songs) for scenes in the first half and they appear jerky because the background score didn’t sync with the visuals. Production values by Anjana Productions are good, but the producer failed in controlling the budget as the money spent for this movie didn’t translate onto the screen (Naga Babu claimed in an interview that he spent 90% of what it cost to make Magadheera).
orange
Analysis: This movie starts off on a dull note. But it gets interesting as Charan’s characterization is introduced. First half of the movie is inconsistent with improper pacing. However, movie gets into the groove from the flashback episode and it becomes a conversational film till climax. Bhaskar has taken a beautiful concept as the basis for story and it needs extreme dexterity to narrate such a story to common moviegoer. Bhaskar succeeded in getting it right towards the climax of the movie. But the ultra-modern orientation and conversations-based treatment might put normal movie goer off the hook. The plus points are Ram Charan Tej, Songs and basic story idea. On the flip side, freshness from heroine and a better handling of the first half would have done wonders to the movie. As for as I am is concerned I am convinced with the second half of the movie and I liked it. On a whole, Orange is an honest film with a nice story idea despite of inconsistencies and a few dull moments. You may watch it!

'Orange' Review 1

Film: Orange

Ramcharan Tej is coming back after his mega blockbuster ‘Magadheera’ and this time, he is seen in a lover boy image. And Bhaskar, after his Parugu has come up with this ‘Orange’.
Story: Set on the backdrop of Australia, Ram (Ramcharan) is an youngster who loves graffiti but he doesn’t believe in love for lifetime. He wants to say truth all the while with respect to love life and live with open mind, open thought and open action with his partner.
This leads to a clash of ideology with Jaanu (Genelia) who studies in the same college and what starts out as a romantic tale between them both turns out to be a relationship of confusion and complications.
Ram explains this entire story as his flash back while a police cop (Prakash Raj) asks him as a part of informal interrogation (!)
Jaanu believes in everlasting love but given the thought process of Ram, will they be together? Can they really love each other? All this forms the rest of the story.
Performances:Ramcharan did his best to fit the lover boy tag and he was neat in his dance and dialogue delivery. Two things he must avoid- a clean shave and full body shots while in a group. There was no emotional depth in his character so his body language was average.
Genelia was depressing and disappointing. Her costumes were bizarre, the make up was patchy and her face looked blotted. She has lost the innocence and charm. Perhaps it is age but the blame also goes to the styling and her image etching. Performance wise, she was regular and didn’t have any special acts.
Shahzahn comes like a breath of fresh air and though she was brief, she looks cute and attractive. She has the potential to take lead roles.
Prakashraj was regular, Brahmi’s comedy was not upto the mark, Prabhu and Pavitra Lokesh were alright, Vennela Kishore was wasted, Madhurima was quick but sweet, Naga Babu made his presence felt. The others didn’t have much to offer except filling the screens and rolling out few lines.
Highlights:Songs (although no much variety among each other)
Dances by Ram Charan
Production Values
Disappointments:Theme
Dialogue
Lack of comedy
Lack of emotion quotient
Characterizations
Analysis:
The fundamental blunder in the film is that when speaking about love it should be run on emotions and feeling but not on calculation. To make things worse, Baskar tries to explain the calculation with his own narrative style which was rather confusing. He had something noble and different in mind but he could not conceive it in the right manner on the screen. There is no emotion, no romance, no chemistry between the lead pair, no sentiment and above all, no comedy. At one stage, it becomes like a boring mathematics class where the audience have become students and are trying to understand what Professor Bhaskar is trying to explain on the love algorithm.
The other disappointment is the philosophy on love. While it is nice to have an ocean full of love, it is common sense that love alone is not life. They are two different entities and the essence of life is in striking a balance between both. Fortunately, what Baskar was trying to say ended up confusing many in the theatre but to those who may have understood a fraction of it, this is truly dangerous. On the other hand, there are quite a number of instances where Bhaskar tried to take the route of Gautam Menon but the difference is chalk and cheese.
The good side of the film is the songs and their picturization which was really impressive and visually appealing. Charan’s efforts in songs were commendable. The fight sequence which involves the spray cans was also creative and colorful. As for his much hyped sky diving stunt, that is not so appealing as expected.
Overall, the film is good on presentation but very poor in content and completely blotched on narration and concept. While the masses have nothing in it, the class audience will feel like they are in a classroom. And regarding the mega fans…well, it looks like 2010 is just not their year as their favorite heroes seem to be dealing with unconventional characters.
Bottomline: Sour fruit with seeds of confusion and misdirection

“I play a character from the age 16 to 25” - Charan

As Ramcharan Teja’s Orange gets ready for release, Cherry has been giving out more details about the movie! It seems Ramcharan plays a character Ram, who grows up from being a shy 16 year old to a confident 25 year old man. He gave this information talking to a famous website.
He said, “The film unfolds from my character's perspective -- how the rest of the characters disagree to my way of living. I play an honest person whose love turns bitter because of his honesty. Here you will see only the character Ram. I play the character from the age of 16 to 25. I have not revealed this to anyone yet.”
It seems Charan first shot the 25 years old scenes and then lost loads of weight before finally shooting for the 16 year old’s story. Does this mean Shazahn Padamsee plays his teenage love interest? We will know soon, but here is what Ram had to say finally about the movie on his Twitter account, “Orange is an honest, true and fresh love story. Thats all I have to say. Rest I’ll leave it leave it to my fans and viewers to analyze.” Way to go Ramcharan. All the best!

Orange releasing with 700 Prints in 1000 theaters!

Ramcharan Teja’s third movie Orange will be releasing with around 700 prints in almost 1000 centers world wide. This could be one of the bigger releases from Telugu film industry, if not the biggest already.
Out of this mammoth total there are 350 physical prints, more than 150 Qube prints and the remaining are UFO digital prints. Apart from India, Orange is being released in countries like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Kuwait.
Tickets for many shows have been booked in advance in many regions, not only in Andhra Pradesh, but also in few theaters in the USA.

Ramcharan thanks Genelia!

With less than 24 hours remaining for the release of Orange, Ramcharan made an entry into onlinesocial networking with a Twitter account. While no star can escape pre-release nerves before their film releases, Ramcharan decided to ease it a bit interacting with his followers and fans. His co-star Genelia seems has convinced him to take a plunge into the tweet world.
Only on the first day of his Tweeting experience Ram gathered around 3000 followers.
The two film old actor has done few different things for Orange – he managed his own look, did a 14,000 feet sky diving and great stunts, romanced two girls on screen for the first time, and importantly targeted at the so called class audiences! Entering Twitter too is proving to be a different experience for Cherry, who wrote, “Loved my first day here.” Of course he didn’t forget to thank Genelia, “All my Twitter fans should thank Genelia for bringing me into this world…thanks babe.”
Orange will be releasing simultaneously in the US, Canada, UK, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia apart from various regions in India of course! Cherry can now get instant feedback on how his fans from all over the world liked the movie!
